To ensure equitable access to publication, InterPore has established an APC Waiver Fund that supports authors who cannot afford the full Article Processing Charge (APC).
20% of every APC paid is automatically added to the InterPore APC Waiver Fund.
At the beginning of each calendar year, InterPore supplements this amount to ensure the fund total equals €20,000 (the initial contribution for 2025 was €20,000).
Waivers and discounts are granted from this fund throughout the year.
At the end of each year, any unused balance is released, and a new allocation begins for the following year.
Automatic waivers and discounts apply to authors from low- and lower-middle-income countries, based on World Bank classifications.
Full or partial waivers are also available upon request for authors elsewhere who demonstrate a genuine financial need.
The APC Waiver fund is designed to uphold InterPore's commitment to open, inclusive, and accesible science, ensuring that the ability to publish is not limited by financial constraints.
Waivers and discounts are applied automatically based on the World Bank country classification of all authors’ affiliations:
| AUTHOR AFFILIATION | APC ADJUSTMENT |
|---|---|
| All authors from Group A countries | 100% waiver |
| All authors from Group B countries | 50% discount |
| Mix of authors from Group A & B countries | 50% discount |
| Mix including other countries | No discount |
Authors do not need to request these waivers. They are automatically applied upon article acceptance.
These criteria are reviewed annually based on World Bank data.

If you or your co-authors face financial difficulties and don’t qualify automatically, you’re welcome to request a waiver or discount. Authors who are unable to process APC payments due to restricted access to international financial systems may request a full waiver. Such requests are considered on a case-by-case basis and handled confidentially.
Please include a short waiver request letter with your submission and send a copy to Laura.Lenz@InterPore.org using the subject line: "APC Waiver Request".
To help us evaluate your request, please include:
A short note explaining why funding is not available.
Supporting information (for example, confirmation from your institution or funding body).
If you are requesting a partial waiver, please state the percentage you are requesting.
Requests are handled quickly and confidentially — typically within one week.
Editorial decisions are made independently and are never influenced by APC payment or waiver status.
