InterPore Journal is a fully open-access, non-profit journal owned and published by the International Society for Porous Media (InterPore). To support the costs associated with publishing the Journal while ensuring that all articles remain freely and permanently accessible, an Article Processing Charge (APC) applies to accepted articles.
There are no submission charges. The APC is payable only after a manuscript has been accepted for publication following peer review. The ability or inability of an author to pay an APC has no influence on the editorial evaluation, peer-review process, or decision regarding a manuscript.
A reduced APC applies if at least one author is an InterPore member through a current InterPore institutional membership when the article is accepted. The author’s institution must be listed as an affiliation in the manuscript.
| Article Type | Institutional Member APC | Standard APC |
| Invited Papers | €700 | €1000 |
| Invited Commentaries | €700 | €1000 |
| Review Articles | €700 | €1000 |
| Original Research Article | €700 | €1000 |
| Opinion Pieces | €500 | €750 |
| Short Communications | €500 | €750 |
| Technical Notes | €500 | €750 |
The same APCs normally apply to articles submitted to Special Issues or other thematic collections unless an article has been directly invited by the Journal with an explicit APC exemption, or a special APC arrangement has been agreed in advance with the InterPore Journal Editorial Office as part of the approval process for the Special Issue or thematic collection. Any such arrangement relates only to the applicable APC and has no bearing on editorial assessment, peer review, or decisions regarding acceptance.
*Invited Student Paper Award: Papers invited for submission through the InterPore Invited Student Paper Award are exempt from the APC, as the APC exemption forms part of the award. All such papers remain subject to the Journal’s standard peer-review and editorial processes.
Authors are not required to pay an APC when submitting a manuscript or while it is undergoing peer review.
Following acceptance, an article may initially be made available by the Journal as an Accepted Article before final production and assignment to an issue. At this stage, the article has completed peer review but has not yet undergone the Journal's full production process and is not the Version of Record.
The APC must be paid before publication of the final Version of Record in an assigned issue.
APC payment therefore does not determine whether an accepted manuscript can proceed through the editorial process; it relates to publication of the final Version of Record.
Following acceptance, the Editorial Office will contact the corresponding author to request the required billing address and VAT information, unless this information has already been provided.
An official invoice will then be issued by InterPore stating the APC amount due and providing full payment instructions.
Payment can be made by bank transfer, PayPal, or credit card.
InterPore Journal recognizes that APCs may present a barrier for some authors and is committed to ensuring that the ability to pay does not prevent the publication of high-quality research.
Automatic waivers or discounts are available for eligible authors from World Bank low-income and lower-middle-income economies, in accordance with the Journal's APC waiver policy.
Authors who do not qualify for an automatic waiver or discount but who are unable to pay the APC may request financial support. Authors are encouraged to inform the Journal of a potential waiver request at the time of manuscript submission. A waiver request may also be made at any time during the review process. Once an author has been notified that the manuscript has been accepted, any waiver request must be submitted at that time.
Full details, including eligibility criteria and the procedure for requesting support, are provided in the APC Waiver and Discount Guidelines (https://ipjournal.interpore.org/index.php/interpore/APC_Waivers)
Decisions regarding the acceptance or rejection of manuscripts are based solely on editorial and scholarly considerations.
Editors and reviewers are not involved in determining whether an author is able to pay an APC, and requests for waivers or other financial support do not influence editorial decisions.
Where a discretionary decision concerning an APC waiver or financial support is required, the InterPore Foundation is responsible for determining whether the APC will be fully or partially waived. This decision is made independently of the Journal’s editorial decision-making process.
InterPore Journal is a society-owned, non-profit journal. APC income is used to support the operational and publication costs of the Journal and its continued development.
To help ensure that publication costs do not prevent authors from publishing in the Journal, InterPore provides €20,000 each calendar year to the InterPore APC Waiver Fund. In addition, 20% of every APC paid is allocated to the Fund, increasing the amount available to support APC waivers and discounts during that year. Further information on the operation of the Fund is provided in the APC Waiver and Discount Guidelines.
InterPore also provides financial support to the Journal to help maintain affordable APCs.
Should APC income exceed the Journal’s operational and publication costs, any resulting surplus will be transferred to the InterPore Foundation to support its charitable and scientific programs.
Questions regarding APCs, institutional member eligibility, invoices, or waiver procedures may be directed to the InterPore Journal Editorial Office.
